Reclaiming

Ourselves

You are invited to a 4-week in-person series that uses neurofeedback, sharing, and creativity to help us cope with the grief of the decline of democracy and human rights in the US and around the world. Listening to Grief and West Seattle Neurofeedback (Kelly) have teamed up to add another tool—neurofeedback—to your kit for dealing with the polycrisis.

Sociopolitical Grief & Neurofeedback

Series Structure

Each session we’ll check in with each other, then set an intention for the session. Then we’ll break into two groups: one group will experience neurofeedback with Kelly while the other group journals, creates, and discusses with Tamara. We’ll close each session by reconvening the entire group for a final sharing circle and goodbyes.

Who this is for

What Else to Know

You will be required to complete release forms, which we will send before the first session. They will also be available to sign in person. Other things to know:

  • EEG sensors are placed on the scalp and ears with conductive paste.

  • Nurture Wellbeing Studio 102 is a shoe-free space.

  • We will be sitting on mats on the floor except during neurofeedback.

We encourage you to bring anything that will help you feel comfortable and supported while on the floor and during the neurofeedback. Perhaps it’s a soft lap blanket, a stabilizing bolster, cozy socks, or a favorite tea (hot water is available).

When I say we are “intervulnerable,” I mean we suffer together, whether consciously or unconsciously. Albert Einstein called the idea of a separate self an “optical delusion of consciousness.” Martin Luther King Jr. said that we are all connected in an “inescapable web of mutuality.” There’s no way out, though we try to escape by armoring ourselves against pain and in the process diminishing our lives and our consciousness. But in our intervulnerability is our salvation, because awareness of the mutuality of suffering impels us to search for ways to heal the whole, rather than encase ourselves in a bubble of denial and impossible individualism. At this point in history, it seems that we will either destroy ourselves or find a way to build a sustainable life together.
